Please note Hydrotherapy is NOT recommended if your dog has any of the following conditions:
Open wounds
Bitches in season
Infectious or contagious conditions such as gastric upsets, kennel cough, ear, eye or skin infections
Heart condition/disease
Pulmonary disease
On each of your pet’s hydrotherapy appointments a health check is carried out prior to your pets swim session and for certain conditions we also measure and monitor muscle mass, and weight during their rehabilitation program.
Before entering the pool your pet will be given a warm massaging shower to prepare them for the swim and also clean their coat of any dirt and debris.
During your pets sessions we take great care in helping your pet feel safe and at ease in the water, with this in mind all pets are fitted with either a buoyancy jacket to build their confidence or a harness to provide support and ease of handling. We can supply ear protection if required.
Each session can vary depending on your pet’s progression, and their requirements and their fitness levels dictate how long each session lasts. All of which will be explained in more detail at each hydrotherapy appointment.
At the end of the session your pet will again be showered and dried before leaving the centre. We do offer a shampoo service and use safe ‘vet grade’ shampoo’s which will not interfere with your pets PH levels, or if preferred your pets own prescribed shampoo, please ask for more details when booking.

Hydrotherapy utilises the warmth, buoyancy and resistance of water in a controlled environment to provide an optimal setting for cardiovascular conditioning and physical rehabilitation. Programs are individually planned for your pet to maximise health benefits and importantly for those who have been on limited exercise or cage rest a chance to have some safe fun!
We work with a range of injuries and disabilities including paralysis, cruciate ligament tears, hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy (DM), and chronic arthritis. Pets are referred for hydrotherapy pre surgery to improve/maintain muscle and joint health and also post operatively to maximise a swift return to mobility.
When your pet is referred for hydrotherapy, in this session, as with all our services we will provide them with optimal care and dedication to their safety and wellbeing. Your pet’s session will be with a qualified hydrotherapist and veterinary physiotherapist, who uses various techniques to effectively improve your pet's strength, coordination and general mobility, using massage, stretching, and passive range of motion whilst they are in the pool.
We also work with patients on issues such as agility performance, sports injury and work related stresses. Dogs involved in sporting or working activities work and train hard to ensure they maintain endurance, speed and agility. Weakness or pain in a given area will limit your pet's ability to perform at the top of their game and increase their risk of injury.

Hydrotherapy is great for your dog's fitness no matter what their level of fitness is and an individual program will be planned for their fitness level and condition. Many dogs enjoy swimming for fun, and to burn off excess energy, our pool offers year round safe and hazard free swimming. Did you know that 5 minutes of swimming for a dog is equivalent to a 5km run?
Not all dogs can swim naturally, we take time to introduce your dog to the water and teach them to swim, building their confidence and getting them to be independent in the water. Believe me it’s not the first time in my 15 years of swimming pets that I have been asked to teach a dog to swim!
Why not start early and ensure your puppy’s' first introduction to water is a positive one, swimming is perfect exercise for growing puppies with no stress on joints and growing bones and is great for confidence.

At Fusion vet physio we continually strive to offer our customers the best facility, treatment and therapeutic equipment, not only are we the first in Aberdeenshire to offer the new Stance analyzer but we now offer our clients the underwater treadmill.
The underwater treadmill provides partial weight bearing exercise which allows a more comfortable environment for treatment, whilst reducing the stress on damaged tissues and joints. Not only is it a very effective way of facilitating a normal walking pattern following an operation or lameness but any treatment programme can be graded and easily measured since water levels and speed can be adjusted accordingly.
With full round vision and easy access doors this will easily accommodate any size of dog whilst allowing both the hydrotherapist and owner to closely observe the dogs gait throughout.
Here at Fusion having both a hydro pool and treadmill means we can better tailor our
treatment programs to optimise them for the specific needs of each patient.
